India Gearing Up For The Final Phase Of Human Trials Of COVID-19 Vaccine:- India is getting ready for the third and final phase of human trials of Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, told Renu Swarup, Secretary of Department of Biotechnology (DBT). The final stage of human trials will be conducted across five sites of the country. This is an essential step and it is necessary to have the data before the vaccination is administered. Serum Institute of India, the largest vaccine maker in the world inked a deal with Oxford University and its partner AstraZeneca. They are ahead in manufacturing the vaccine and the trial results of the first two phases are published earlier this month.

The DBT is now apart of any coronavirus vaccine that would be manufactured in the country and it is setting up Phase 3 clinical sites. Five sites are ready for the final phase of human trials said Renu Swarup. Serum Institute of India (SII) got permission from the Drugs Controller General of India (DGCI) for conducting the second and third phase of human trials in the country and to develop a potential vaccine. DBT is all set to have the data within the country to produce the vaccine if the trials are successful. Several scientists said that the coronavirus vaccine developed by the Oxford University appears to be safe and promising. 1077 healthy adults between the age of 18 and 55 are chosen and the trials took place in April and May.

Bharat Biotech and Zydus Cadila are the other two pharmaceutical companies that are busy with the clinical trials for COVID-19 vaccine in India.
