Man jailed for laughing in US

Laughing can be a real stress reliever and can also help the treatment of a few types of mental health disorders but it added to one unfortunate person's stress after he had received summonses from the court for laughing too much at his own house. Robert Schiavelli, 42, is now chargeable with 30 days of imprisonment, $500 or both since he laughed too much at his home sweet home.

This New York resident was ticketed for disturbing the peace two days in a row in February, 2013. The police who received a complaint from the troubled neighbors acted immediately and ticketed him. The neighbors said that his laugh was audible from the street across. Wow! That should be a new record.

Schiavelli says he has a neurological problem and seizures for which he is often mocked by his room mate. Schiavelli has no choice but to laugh out at his roomie's mockery to defend himself. Negative psychology?

"I did not know it was a crime to laugh out a window," said Schiavelli with hints of sarcasm evident. Police were not pleased with his attitude and explanation probably, giving him tickets for "disturbing the peace" twice at 6 pm on February 12 and 13.

Each ticket had a fine of $250 or 15 days in jail. Neighbors pressed charges for his laughing which was "in such a manner as to annoy, disturb, interfere with, obstruct, or be offensive to others."

"The last time I checked, it was not a crime to laugh - except in Rockville Centre," Schiavelli's lawyer Campanelli said with the same hints of mockery.
