Vital parts kept by forensic medicine department in Kings College, London for up to 20 years made the relatives angry and in some cases second time funerals were conducted.
After finding the fact, Guy's and St.Thomas' Hospitals in London is busy in returning the organs kept without consents from the relatives. As many as 12 police forces are working on the task of returning the organs of their beloved ones.
As per the Hospital Trust, the organs and tissue samples kept by the department of forensic medicines were transferred to the trust after the department was closed there as per the National guidelines. It came to light when an audit report showed 500 body parts are stored by police that are not under investigation. Then the hospital authorities called police and the facts came to cause concern.
But, the hospital authorities say, the organs were kept under safe conditions. Some of the organs are stored since 1992. Guy's and St.Thomas' Hospitals and police department apologized public for the lapses and unauthorized keeping of the organs.
