Chocolate and Yoga

A study shows that a piece of dark chocolate makes you calm and contented.  Oxidative stress causes many diseases to human beings and polyphenols is the solution to counter it which is found in plants and form part of human diet.  Polyphenols is present in the dark chocolate and the study on it shows it acts as a mood maker that too, a positive one.  

As always done in a study, proper care is taken in this too.  A group of 72 people with good health and in age group of 40- 65 years were given cocoa polyphenol to drink for 30 days with 3 different doses.  The chocolate drink with 500 mg, 250 mg and 0 mg were given in identical glasses so that the study is not biased.  After 30 days, the high dosed dark chocolate consumers showed more calmness and contentedness that those of others.  Interestingly only they found the difference in 500 mg consumers.  but 250 mg consumers were found equal to 0 mg consumers.  More over the difference was not outward to confirm the results.  It was only what was stated by those who took 500 mg per day for 30 days continuously.

Calmness comes with contentedness and contentment comes with calmness.  Our ancestors found that these two are required for human beings to lead a qualitative and peaceful life that leads to a healthy society.  As there were no chocolates available at that time, they showed us ways to calm the mind and to develop contentment.  It is rather a habit to develop mentally but not a habit to get through an intake.  

Yoga was given to the mankind to achieve the virtues.  The very first verse of Patanjali Yoga states that Yoga helps one to control stray thoughts-

“Yogaha chittavrutthi nirodaha”
