Daughter in law is a member, not a maid servant!

Supreme Court while upholding a seven years jail sentence of a man who tortured his wife that caused her commit suicide expressed concern for the way brides are treated in many cases without any humanity that makes them lose interest in their lives.

The bench of Justice K.S.Radhakrishnan and Justice Dipak Misra expressed their view on the occasion that a daughter in law should be treated as a family member with warmth and affection but not as a stranger.  She should not be treated as a house maid.  Especially, the bench observed, they should not be given an impression at any time that they would be thrown out of the home.

The bench also said that respect a bride gets at her matrimonial home glorifies the solemnity and sanctity of marriage.  But the way a bride is treated by the husband and in laws create a feeling of emotional numbness instead of epitomizing her aspirations dreamt of nuptial bliss, the bench commented further.

It is true that a bride leaving her birth place, her child hood, her associates and other petty things she never thought of losing tries to adjust herself at a new place with new associates in pursuit of happiness in her life at the new found home.  Instead of understanding her feelings, if she is treated as an alien and entrusted with the physical work and also pressurize in some cases for dowry, eventually may lead to extinguish in her the very spark of life that makes themankind sustain.
