A woman from Maharashtra who sold her 'mangalsutra' to build a toilet in her home, is getting appreciation from all corners. The Maharashtra government recognised this woman and honoured for showing the importance of having toilet at home.
Going by the details, Sangita Awhale, from Saikkhed village in Washim district of Vidarsbha recently sold her wedding chain and pendant so as to raise money to construct a toilet in her remote village home. She did not get much support from her husband and family to build this and decided to build a toilet on her own. Sangita sold her 'mangalsutra' and raised money. Her work got appreciation from villagers and as the news spread with the help of local media, Maharashtra government has recognised this and Rural Development Minister Pankaja Munde invited her and honoured. Pankaja Munde presented Sangita a brand new mangalsutra.
“Toilet is a basic necessity, compared to ornaments. I sold my ornaments and decided to build the toilet,” said Sangita after being honoured.
