“SHe-box” Portal For Sexual Harassment Complaints Launched:- Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi on Monday launched an online complaint management system called the “Sexual Harassment electronic-Box (SHe-Box)”.
It is meant to register cases of sexual harassment of women at workplace. Maneka said that though currently this facility has been extended to Central Government employees, the scope of the portal will soon be extended to women employees of private sector also.
Union minister Maneka Gandhi said “We are also going to soon conduct a national survey to assess the nature and magnitude of sexual harassment at the workplace,” the minister said after launching the portal.
The online complaint management system - ‘SHe-box’ hosted on the website of the ministry, also seeks to ensure “effective implementation” of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.
A senior WCD ministry official said, “Once a complaint is registered, we will forward it to the ministry/department where the woman works. We will also follow it up with the respective ministry as to what action has been initiated.”
WCD minister Maneka said a national level survey will be carried out by her ministry, to asses and understand the magnitude of the problem.
The portal is also an effort to provide “speedier remedy” to women facing sexual harassment at the workplace, as envisaged under the sexual harassment Act, a senior official of the ministry said.
