1996 Sonipat Blasts: Abdul Karim Tunda Gets Life Imprisonment:- The 1996 Sonipat bomb blasts convict and Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist, Abdul Karim Tunda (75), has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Sonipat court on Tuesday.
Tunda, was pronounced guilty in the bomb blasts case on Monday. Moreover, the court, each under Sections 307, 120 B and Section 3 of Explosive Substances Act, has also asked Tunda to pay Rs 50,000.
To be recalled, at least 15 persons were injured in the twin blasts in Sonipat in 1996. While one explosion occurred near a cinema hall, while another happened near a sweet shop. On August 16, 2013, Tunda was arrested from the Indo-Nepal border at Banbasa. He was suspected to be involved in several blasts across the country, some of which cases are still pending.

In September this year, Tunda’s statements in the case were recorded. He had claimed that at the time of blasts, he was in Pakistan. The testimony during the trial, was recorded from forty-three witnesses, including those who were injured in the blasts, based on which Tunda was pronounced guilty on Monday.
“Abdul Karim Tunda has been held guilty under section 307 (attempt to murder) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and section 3 of the Explosive Substances Act,” said Tunda’s counsel Ashish Vats.
