TRAI Never Recommended 11-Digit Mobile Number:- Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Sunday made it clear that they have never recommended a 11-digit mobile number in the country and they have suggested to prefix '0' when the mobile numbers are called from landline phones. The recommendation on this will generate 2,544 million additional numbering resources for the mobile services to cater to the requirements of the future said TRAI. The country would continue to follow 10-digit mobile number for mobile services. TRAI categorically rejected shifting to 11-digit mobile number plan.

"Trai has not recommended 11-digit numbering scheme for mobile services," the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said in a statement. This change in the dialing pattern will generate 2544 million additional numbering resources. TRAI also recommended that a revised new National Numbering Plan (NNP) should be issued at the earliest. Most of the mobile operators opposed 11-digit number for the mobile numbers. This would create more confusion and cause inconvenience to the customers and it even can lead to more dialing errors and loss of revenues to the operators.
