Oddest Book Title of the Year?

Never judge a book by its cover is one maxim that has been used thread bare but people tend to follow the contrary always, literally too. There is even a contest for the Oddest Book Title of the Year award that is international!

Getting to the point, Book Titles the catchy ones are the ones necessary for budding authors to garner attention in the world and get people talking about their book. A good cover and an inquisitive title will get you more than a million copies sold with easy considering that you have decent storytelling skills.

For this years Oddest Book Title of the Year award, there have been several books shortlisted in the 35th Annual Diagram Prize while two of them have been vying neck to neck, How to Sharpen Pencils and How Tea Cozies Changed the World.

A guide to sharpening pencils? Tea Cozies changing the world? LOL WUT? If that was your primary reaction, I guess the books have already made a point being the top contenders for the contest. There is also another book about the life of Hitler and his health study titled “was Hitler Ill?

Take a look at other weird titles in the short list "God's Doodle: The Life and Times of the Penis" by Tom Hickman, "Goblinproofing One's Chicken Coop" by Reginald Bakeley and "How Tea Cosies Changed the World" by Loani Prior.

Though awarding such a title might seem silly, the marketing side of having such a flippant title is another strategy. The book has to get some attention, which can happen with its cover and title, and when someone picks up the book and reads the synopsis, the author's job is done!

"Publishers realize that if a book has an unusual title, particularly a novel, it can help make them more attractive to the public," analysts observed. In the past a book titled "A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian" sold almost a million copies and "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" sold more than two million copies.
