The online classifieds portal Quikr.com got involved in a controversy for allegedly advertising a boy for sale at Rs. 5. This incident came into limelight when the National Committee for the Protection of Child Rights spotted this strange and unconvincing advertisement in Quikr.com.
The Child Rights protection authority reported this to the Union Information Technology Ministry in December and sought an explanation from Quikr.com. "We have received a complaint against a web portal for carrying an ad selling a child. We are investigating the matter.” said a top official from the ministry. After a complaint was filed, the ad was removed.
Quikr.com remained silent to comment on this issue and according to the sources, the company has ordered an internal probe. The ad was reportedly posted by a man from Chennai.
