Making a mockery of the Batting wizard Sachin Tendulkar’s century after Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat, Kochi Tuskers Kerala shocked the favourites by posting an 8-wicket victory at the Wankhade in Mumbai in the ongoing IPL season-4 campaign on Friday.
Kochi Tuskers, with a fierce clobbering by Brendon McCullum and Mahela Jayawardene, reached the target of 183 with six balls to spare.
For the Kochi Tuskers, Brendon McCullum hammered out 81 runs out of 60 balls with ten fours and two sixes while Mahela Jayawardene made a breezy 56 out of 36 balls with 9 fours giving the first victory to their team in the IPL competition.
Lasith Malinga raised the hopes of Mumbai Indians by clean-bowling Jayawardene and McCullum in his second spell. But by then, openers McCullum and Jayawardene had put on 128 for the first wicket. To the dismay of Mumbai Indians, Hodge and Jadeja kept up the momentum as well to see through the Kochi team towards victory.
In the end, the Tuskers needed 35 runs from 17 balls but then all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who is in fine nick, smashed 25 off 11 balls to make things easier.
