Australian legend Steve Waugh observed that though the current Indian team is one of the favourite titleholders of the upcoming World Cup, still it is in the habit of being fumbled in the big stages of the world cup.
The former Austraian Skipper was in the capital to launch the programme 'Play up". Speaking to the reporters on the sidelines of the event, Waugh said that there is not an iota of doubt over the abilities of the Indian team. The team has certainly sharpened under SA's Gary Kirsten. It has become lot more aggressive in the last few years but tends to give up the battle in crucial stages of the tournament.
Even the South African is not having a better record when it comes to winning the crucial matches in the World Cup, said Steve Waugh. His home team, however, has no such problems, said the victorious captain of the 1999 World Cup.
Praising M S Dhoni for maintaining composure even in adverse situations of the match, Steve Waugh said that the Indian stumper can help withstand the pressure despite the fact that the Indian team is playing on the home soil against high expectations.
Throwing his perspective on the motto that winning the World Cup for Sachin is a natural prerogative as uttered by some of the Indian players, Waugh viewed that no player can be above one's nation.
To a question, dew factor comes into being during the stage of the Quarter Finals, added Steve Waugh.Steve Waugh picked the Sri Lankan Pacer Lasith Malinga, Eng's offie Graeme Swann, Aus's comeback man Brett Lee along with India's Harbhajan Singh to do well for their respective countries in the ICC tournament.
The former Australian batsman ruled out the possibility of taking up the coaching assignment of the Indian team saying that he is heavily occupied with lots of actitivites ranging from his Foundation, self-business, and Aus' Brand Ambassador for the London Olympics.
Waugh was tipped to be the South African coach way back in February 2005, but the Proteas opted for Micky Arther then.
