Federer topples Berdych to grab No.2 ranking

Swiss born Roger Federer topples Czech’s Tomas Berdych in an upset win at Madrid. The Swiss captured his third Madrid Masters title after defeating Tomas Berdych in a 3-6, 7-5, 7-5 sets, on Sunday. This win by Federer will see him as number two on the ATP rankings pushing Rafael Nadal to third position. Federer who stands just after Novak Djokovic, has nearly 16 grand slam titles under his belt. The blue clay court at Caja Magica played favorable to the Swiss, where the Swiss-Czech encounter took place. On Monday the ATP rankings will place the Swiss ahead of Nadal.

Federer in a post match interview exclaimed, "I feel amazing!! This is a tough tournament and a brutal draw. I'm playing well and I'm so happy to win this once again." With this win the titans, Federer and Nadal shared the honors of 20 titles each at the Masters 1000 level. Federer a satisfied man claimed, "It's a great feeling to win any event, but especially another here in Madrid. This is a tough tournament. It was tough to move on the clay but you just get on with it and try to make the best of the situation. The level of play was good this week and I'm looking forward to the next few weeks," headed.

The sportive Czech, Tomas Berdych in his post match interview claimed, "We both played a nice match, but Roger showed why he's the star. He was able to win in the conditions, it was well done."

Berdych claimed the first set as he dominated with 14 winners and two unforced errors, only to quickly find himself on the other end of a Federer fight back in the second. And from this point it was a no-turn-back game for the thirty year old Swiss. Federer had another amazing surprise awaiting him, post-match.
