Day 3 in the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium was a big day for India in the second test match against Australia because of the tremendous lead it had scored over the latter on Day 3. Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara put together a magnificent performance on day three while they could contribute 370 runs together on the board which is the fourth highest partnership ever against Australia for a test game only 15 runs shy of the highest partnership. However, things changed after Vijay got dismissed. Wickets fell in quick succession, but that didn't deter Pujara from scoring his splendid second double century, the earlier one coming against England.
This latest achievement puts him in a different class of players. He is the second fastest person to score 1000 runs in the least number of innings only after Vinod Kambli. In 18 matches Pujara could come right under Kambli who did it with two back to back double centuries with only 15 matches to the "grand". With smaller contributions from Dhoni and Kohli; insignificant ones from the rest, India managed to eke out the 500 score mark before being bowled out.
Australia, once again had not a very good start, losing Warner and Hughes early into the game. Ashwin seizes the thunder at the end of the day with both the wickets to compensate for just a wicket in the first innings. At the crease are Cowan and Watson for a meager score of 74/2 while they have a big lead of 192 runs more to cover up before handing over the bat to the Indian side. Looks like this match, too, is going to be a cake walk for the Indians.
