Getting younger, Nag completes 53

Akkineni Nagarjuna, our quintessential Manmadhudu, who played all varieties of roles in Cinema like his father veteran actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao, turns 54 today. Adding one more year’s life experience with satisfaction, Nag enjoyed continuous success when looked back since his career debut in the film industry. He left a striking image with his own impeccable, elegant and alluring style, whether it is a fight, sentiment or devotion or playing God like in the recent Shirdi Sai.

Nagarjuna was born on 29th August 1959 at Chennai. His first movie was Sudigundalu produced by his father and directed by Adurthi Subba Rao. He started his film career in 1986 with 'Vikram’ but gained recognition with ‘Gitanjali’ directed by Maniratnam in 1989 and with ‘Shiva’ directed by Ram Gopal Varma in 1990, when he became an action hero. He has so far acted in 86 films and two more are coming up. 'Bhai' will release soon and 'Manam' is in production.

He is running Annapurna Studios and also runs Annapurna International School of Film and Media as its President to impart rich experience to the aspirants who want to make a career in the film and media. This contribution marks as more service to the art from the Akkinenis. The Institute is a non-profit based venture.

He received two National Awards consecutively in 1997 and 1998. He received Nandi awards on four occasions and many more other awards as an actor and producer. He has now explored the businessman in him further, running a distribution house in addition to a partnership for a team at the Indian Badminton League.
