In a move to mark the welcome of Sikh community in the state, California Assembly has passed a resolution making November month of 2012 a Sikh American Awareness and Appreciation Month. The Sikh community in California welcomed the decision. Although the resolution was introduced by Assemblyman Henry Perea, he was not present when the resolution was passed as he had to attend to the needs of his ailing mother.
It may be noted that November is a holy month of Sikhs and every year on first Sunday, Sikh Americans celebrate the coronation of Sikh scriptures. A Sikh parade will also be taken out in US and the one that’s orgazined in Yuba City is known across the globe.
When the resolution was passed in the assembly, as many as 20 eminent Sikhs were present in the house. This resolution was also been reportedly hailed and welcomed by many Indian persons. (Phani)
