Renowned classical dancer KP Bhaskar's sudden demise today has sent in shock waves among all the classical dances in Singapore. Eighty eight year old KP Bhaskar reportedly succumbed to heart attack this morning. He is survived by his wife Santha (74) and three children. KP Bhakar, who's a pioneer in classical dance, shifted to Singapor way back in 1952. He carried his art along with him that he taught to the enthusiasts in Singapore. In no time he was shot into fame for his meticulous teaching of India's classical dance, Bharatha Natyam.
After years of teaching classical dance, Mr Bhaskar founded a dance institute in Singapore—Nrityalaya Aesthetics Society—which catered to the needs of even professional Indian classical dancers in Singapore. During his long career, Bhaskar received n number of awards that include Kala Vipanchee, Nritya Shiromani doctirate, Natya Kalanishi and even Singapore's meritorious service medal.
Bhakar's demise is undoubtedly a great loss to all classical dancers in Singapore. However, he would continue to live in the hearts of crores as long as Bharatanatyam is active in Singapore!
