Mantras for a healthy U!

Calcium and Iron are considered as best friends for Woman's health... but, we also need to have an idea as what type of food is rich in Calcium and Iron in accordance to plan our diet... here are some suggestions for you;

Leafy Green Vegetables

Leafy green vegetables, such as spinach, kale and Swiss chard, are excellent sources of both calcium and iron, according to the World's Healthiest Foods website. Other green vegetables that pack high levels of calcium and iron include broccoli, asparagus, turnip greens and mustard greens. In addition, spinach is an excellent source of vitamin K, which helps build strong bones, and vitamin C, which helps your body absorb iron.

Molasses
Blackstrap molasses, often used to flavor gingerbread, baked beans and brown bread, provides 11 percent of your daily need for calcium and 13 percent of your daily need for iron in a 2 tsp. serving. That's about the amount you'll get in a serving of baked beans, which are made with dried navy or pea beans, two more good sources of calcium and iron.

Herbs
Herbs add more than flavor to food. They also provide important minerals, vitamins and phytonutrients to your diet. Thyme, basil, oregano, dill and rosemary are all good, very good or excellent sources of calcium and iron, according to the World's Healthiest Foods website.

Seaweed
Kelp, a type of seaweed, is a good source of calcium and iron. It is also an excellent source of iodine, which helps regulate your thyroid, and of many other important minerals. Sprinkle kelp flakes, available in health food stores, on your food as a salt substitute.

Tofu
Tofu, soybeans and other soy products provide calcium and iron. Tofu and textured soy protein are good sources of calcium for vegans and others who choose to avoid dairy products.

Calcium builds strong bones and helps your heart, muscles and nerves function properly, according to Elena Serrano, an associate professor at Virginia Tech who specializes in human nutrition, foods and exercise. Your body uses iron to build hemoglobin, an essential component of blood, and to enhance your immune system. Foods with calcium and iron not only provide these two important nutrients, they also add other nutrients to your diet which may be important to their proper absorption.
