Like waxing and moisturising your hands, your nails too need equal attention. Proper care and attention must be ensured right from its base for stronger nails.
Experts point out that diet has a direct effect on nails. Dr Leelavathi Raj, a nutritionist based in Calicut explains, "Improper dieting, malnutrition or any other eating disorders can contribute to weak, brittle and discoloured nails. Also, like your hair and skin, nails too need to be kept hydrated, so drinking at least 1 litre of water is very essential." Ensure to include foods rich in vitamins and minerals in your diet.
Getting manicures and pedicures done at regular intervals can also ensure neat and strong nails. Now with the manicure and pedicure kits easily available in the market, one can do it at home. "First, start off by dipping your hands in warm shampoo water or salt water to remove any grim or dead cells," advices beauty expert Sheela Paul. But the exfoliation does not end there. "Use soft bristled-scrub or brush to exfoliate dead cells from the ridges and dents of the nail as impurities are more prone to settle down at corners," she adds. She further adds, "Dry the nail with a towel, moisturise your hands and apply a thick base of clear nail gloss."
Add beauty to nails with vibrant colours like red, pink, blue and green. Nail art is yet another option to add to its beauty. "But ensure to add an extra coat of clear nail gloss over it to prevent the colour from wearing off and to make it look glossy," suggests Sheela.
Additionally, to get rid of yellow nails, rub lemon in the inner rim of the nail.
