Clarify your Goals: Clarifying your purpose is the most important thing you can do to manage change in your life. If you have a clear idea about what do you want out of the circumstances you are most likely to get them. If you don't have a clear idea about your goals then you will not know whether you are moving in a right direction or not. It is said
"If you don't know where you are going,. You will end up someplace else." Yogi Berra.
Your goals act as a beacon for your efforts and provide direction in which you would like to move.
Create a support network: A support network consists of people who are joined together for a common cause. They provide emotional and material support to each other when needed. It acts as a safety net and provides a great peace of mind. Some people are lucky to have great friends and family network. Some just have to create their own network. But it is very important to have people on your side to listen to you and provide you comfort when you need it the most. Many times you will find support groups organized around a specific need. One great way to find a group specific to your needs is to look for a meet-up group in your local area. So find your support group and be a part of it now.
Create an understanding of the situation: Find out as much as you can on your specific situation when you suspects. You may not all the information but you will get informed. Lack of information is biggest reason for fearing change. And fear of change is the biggest obstacle to managing change.
Make emergency and worst case scenario plans: Make emergency plans and the worst case scenarios. Look at all the options and see prepared for a worst case scenario. This is not about getting fearful or being afraid. Actually it is the opposite of that. Creating a plan simply provides a reassurance and frees your mind. As your attention is taking away from what will happen to the re-assurance that no matter what happens, you will be OK.
Create a level of comfort with change: Cultivate an attitude where change is a fact of life. Change will be present whether we like it or not. There are things that we can control and there are things that we have no control over. It is useless to fret over the things that you can't control. It is said
"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." Reinhold Niebuhr
You develop a level of comfort with the change when you realize that the only things you have control over is your own attitude and your own response. The circumstances don't matter your reaction to them does.
Manage the speed of change: Manage the speed of the change. Many a times the change itself is not a problem but how fast it overtakes us matters. So changing the speed of the change would make a significant difference in your well being. You can slow down the pace of change by removing the unessential in your life. Simplify your life by cutting the activities that don't contribute to your goals. Anything that doesn't create satisfaction or happiness in your life need to be reevaluated.
"The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak"Hans Hofmann
