On Wednesday morning, the atmosphere at the Pioneer Park, Barasat was gloomy after the body of an ex-armyman was found to be floating in the pond.
The police identified the deceased as Chittaranjan Das, 75, who was a resident of the area and had served the army earlier before his retirement. He was also reportedly missing since Tuesday according to a complaint from the members of the family at the Barasat police station the same day.
On the next morning at 7:30, a few locals had identified the body and intimated the police on the issue.
Family members said that Das was a patient of depression. The police are investigating the case to learn if the death was suicide.
