Congress president Sonia Gandhi was said to have instructed the party core committee to solve the Telangana issue with out any delay. Sources said an announcement may be made on Telangana during the third week of July.
Sonia reportedly passed out these instructions when the committee discussed the issue Friday evening at the residence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. “Don’t drag it any more and solve the issue soon,” she told the committee, according to sources.
When Azad, who attended the meeting in his capacity as the in-charge of the party affairs in AP and explained that talks were going on the issue, Sonia asked him to finish the talks at the earliest and take a decision.
After the one hour meeting wherein Mumbai blasts issue also came up for discussion, Pranab Mukherjee, Chidambaram and Antony left the PM’s house but Azad continued his discussions with Sonia and PM for another half an hour or so.
When reporters asked for the details of the meeting, Ahmad Patel, political secretary to Sonia Gandhi, said Azad was in the know of things as he was overseeing the talks. “I don’t know any thing about the progress of talks. Please talk to Azad. And I should not speak about the details of the present meeting,” he said simply and left the place.
