Protagonists of the united AP, mostly students, today confronted the Union Minister Ms Purandhareswari in Visakhapatnam and demanded her resignation in support of their cause to keep the state united.
Pro-united AP students gathered in large numbers at an official programme where the Union Minister was the chief guest and raised slogans demanding her resignation. When police tried to send them away, students argued with the police officials raising tempers. Ultimately, police had to resort to lathi charge to send them away.
Police also arrested some of the students who resisted their attempts to disperse them by using force. A near stampede-like situation prevailed at the Minister’s programme where in the city ACP Mr Krishna Murthy sustained minor injuries.
In another development, TDP cadres and leaders organized a rally in the city demanding the congress leadership and the Centre to keep the state united. They raised slogans decrying the leaders of TRS and the Telangana JAC which they alleged have been encouraging people to commit suicides in the name of Telangana state.
“When there is no safety for Andhra people working in the AP Bhavan in Delhi, who will give guarantee for the people residing in Telangana?” they asked.
