Delhi victim: Condition still critical

The condition of the Delhi rape victim remained to be critical on Tuesday, said doctors treating her at Safdarjung hospital in the national capital territory.  She has been on ventilator and on Monday she was reported to have profusely bleeding internally.  The sources close to medicos in Delhi have said that her blood platelet count, however, increased to 70,000. She reportedly developed septicemia (blood infection).

The doctors have reportedly feared that the victim might be heading towards organ failure, which is caused due to septicemia.  She was also running high fever of 102 to 104 Fahrenheit. Meanwhile, protests in Delhi are going on against the heinous crime and also demanding swift action against the culprits. It may be recalled that 23-year-old medical (physiotherapy) student was allegedly raped on a moving bus last Sunday in the late evening. She was later hit badly with iron rods and thrown out of the bus following which a bank manager, on noticing the victim, informed the police. She was then admitted to Safdarjung hospital.
