The President of India Pranab Mukherjee completed one year of his tenure today.
The President has kept a busy schedule for himself today. Some of the important programs are,
1. Inauguration of “Pranab Mukherjee Public Library” in Rashtrapati Bhawan for the use of the residents of Rashtrapati Bhawan. About 8000 families are living in Rashtrapati Estate. The Library is fully air conditioned. It is having a good collection of books, magazines and news papers suitable to all ages. The library has a children section in it to encourage kids to make a habit of good reading.
2. Opening of Cricket stadium and play ground at Dr.Rajendra Prasad Sarvodaya Vidyalaya in the Estate in which 1600 students are studying and 60 teachers are in the faculty.
3. Unveiling of a bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi made by 89 years old Ram Sutar who is a recipient of Padma Shree in 1999.
4. Opening of a program of digitization of rare photographs.
5. The President will have a video conference with all the State Governors from the new video conference arrangement made recently.
6. Pranab Mukherjee is going to host a dinner for the Council of Ministers at night.
Pranab Mukherjee although active holding the highest office of India, he is stickler to the rules and conventions. The notable action he took is the disposal of all the merci petitions including that of Ajmal Kasab of 26/11 attack and Afzal Guru who attacked Parliament.
Court Judges still like to be called ‘Your honor’ but as a President of India holding highest position in the Country removed use of “His Excellency” while addressing him. He removed protocols and unnecessary security restrictions in Rashtrapati Bhawan. He caused the renovation of Rashtrapati Bhawan making Durbar Hall usable again. Rare books, antique furniture and museum in the Rashtrapati Bhawan are taken good care of. Pranab Mukherjee is usually seen talking to other in the Rashtrapati Bhawan in an informal way enjoying interactions with all of them.
