On Wednesday, Amazon launched its biggest warehouse in Kothur of Mahabubnagar district. Telangana IT Minister K Taraka Rama Rao inaugurated Amazon’s new unit. As per the reports, this fulfillment centre with state-of-the-art facilities covers 2,80,000 sq ft and is expected to create employment for around 500 local youth across the state.
KTR, who visited Seattle, US, last month, had invited Amazon's web services team to evaluate options of setting up its data centre in the state. "We have requested Amazon to set up a data centre in Hyderabad. A delegation from the US is expected to pay a visit to Hyderabad soon, and we are hopeful of receiving a positive response," KTR said.
KTR announced that a new campus of Amazon will come up in Nanakramguda, near Gachibowli. Regarding this, already, 10 acres of land has been identified for the purpose. But there is no such mention about the investment in the new campus, however he assured that the works relating to the campus will commence soon as they already got clearances from the MoEF (Ministry of Environment & Forests).
According to the company, hundreds of sellers have already registered at the facility and many of them have started inbounding their products at the facility. Amazon now has 11 FCs operational across eight states in India covering a total of over one million square feet space with a storage capacity of over 2.5 million cubic feet.
However, let’s hope that this largest fulfillment centre will shape up Hyderabad into a new form and increases the employment opportunities in India.
