In a shocking incident, a 23-year-old man was killed and two others injured he was trapped under the debris from the partial collapse of a compound wall in Goudiya Mutt road, Royapettah, Chennai.
According to the police, the deceased identified as Dhanasekar(23), resident of Ambedkar Nagar, Royapuram died on spot and two others Kalaiselvi (23) and Kuppan (50) were injured.
The incident took place at Nagappa Centre in which several IT and ITES companies are there. The wall of the complex facing Lalithapuram street, which is at least 7 ft high and 40 ft wide, collapsed at around 1 pm, trapping the three under the debris.
Dhanasekar runs a cloths ironing shop and was standing close to the wall facing his back. He was ironing clothes when the wall collapsed trapping him and two others. The staff of the complex pulled all three.
The injured were rushed to nearby Government Royapettah Hospital(GRH) for treatment. The complex staff alerted the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services Personnel and three emergency response vehicles from Guindy, Egmore, and Mylapore who rushed to the scene.
The TNFRS personnel roped had to clear the debris to pull out Dhanasekar. The doctors of the government hospital declared Dhanasekar dead when he was bought to the hospital. His body was later shifted to the hospital morgue.
Kalaiselvi was selling idlies on the platform when this tragedy took place. A Chevrolet Beat car was also crushed as it was parked near the compound wall. Sources said “the cops were investigating the stability of the compound wall. They have registered a case and are on the lookout for the building owner.”
