University of Hyderabad teachers and the SC/ST teachers' forum held a round table conference on Sunday. The in conference, they discussed about the police inaction in delivering justice to Rohith Vemula, the dalit scholar who committed suicide on January 17 this year.
Several city-based activists and intellectuals such as Chukka Ramaiah, G Haragopal, M Kodandaram, Susie Tharu, Kancha Iliah and Padmaja Shaw, among several faculty members from the university also participated in the round table meet.
They also demanded that all the police cases filed against students and two faculty members should be dropped.
"There have been false cases filed against many students and two faculty members. Most of the students arrested belong to dalit and minority communities and come from socially deprived backgrounds. Needless to add, these unjust cases filed against them for voicing dis sent will affect their future prospects," a statement is sued by the forum said.
The forum urged the Telangana government to take action in the matter and speed up the process of getting justice to Rohith.
"We urge you to see to it that the government fulfils its constitutional obligation by invoking the SCST Atrocity Act and justice be brought (sic)," said the forum.
