Australia captain Michael Clarke said that temptation to break more records never entered his mind after he declared on a majestic 329 not out against India.

Clarke's unbeaten effort was also the highest in 100 Tests at the SCG, and the fourth highest score ever by an Australian. Clarke was five runs shy of Mark Taylor and Don Bradman's 334 when he selflessly declared the Australian innings.

"Don't get me wrong, I'm stoked that I've managed to make 300-odd runs today but the most important thing for me now is that we win this," Clarke said.

Clarke may have been tempted to bat on and attempt to break Brian Lara's all-time world record 400 not out as the Test match only on its third day.

"I didn't think about it at all," said Clarke, who called a halt with his side 468 runs ahead on 659-4. "I didn't have Don Bradman and Mark Taylor's score in my head.

"It was about trying to get the team to a total which I thought was a really good for a declaration and then get out there and try have a crack and take a couple of wickets this afternoon."

"I spoke to Huss just before we declared and I really wanted him to make 150, he deserved that," added Clarke.

"I thought once we had a 450-run lead, it was a good time to pull up stumps," he said.

"It's about putting the team first. What I love most about this game, is seeing this team win," he said. "I've been like that as a player and I'll be no different as a captain.

"If it was best for the team to continue batting then I would have continued to bat."
