Twitter Changes Its Default Profile Photo Into Human Silhouette

Social networking service, Twitter has now changed its default profile photo from “Twitter Egg”, to a new human silhouette.

The Twitter Egg has been used since 2010, for users who do not upload their own photo.

Individuals who have created an account, on Twitter, started using the site with their default profile photo as an egg, for the past seven years.

It was a fun and playful way to refer how eggs hatch into birds, that send all the Tweets you see on Twitter!

But now it is time for something new!

The website, has been trolled on several social media platforms, and this initiative is also part of Twitter’s strategy.

Twitter wrote in a blog post, stating, “The initiative is mainly to fight harassment, as there has been a link between the default egg profile photo and negative behavior, which is not fair to people who are still new to Twitter.

This new initiative, is to encourage users to upload a picture of themselves.

The company wrote, it took a really long time to decide on how this new icon would appear. It was important to explore alternate head shapes, masculinity. We even tried to make it as blank as possible.

Some Twitter users were not too pleased with the change, while others thought a new profile picture would not do much to fight harassment, and poked fun at the new design.

Few users even compared the human silhouettes to avatars that “look like car headrests.”

Twitter confirmed the change is not a prank, as it would be a cruel joke indeed to play on its users, on April Fools Day.
