While there is still a debate on, whether movies can influence the present generation or not, accepting that influence would obviously there, the censor officials have long back started certifying the movies such as U, U/A, A, S.
U - Unrestricted Public Exhibition.
UA - Unrestricted Public Exhibition but with a word of caution that Parental discretion required for children under 12 years.
A - Restricted to adults.
S - Restricted to any special class of persons.
Censor certification system is formed to classify the films, and certify them with the suitable alphabet, (as shown above).
Along with the sexual content, there will be many more issues, a censor official observes before certifying a movie, like violence, substance abuse, profanity, impudence or other types of mature content.
The Revising Panel of the CBFC (Central Board Of Film Certification), headed by Shyam Benegal, is considering to create separate time slots in theatres for films with adult content.
CBFC is considering an idea of implementing the American grading system for the movies in the country. Special arrangements will be made for ‘R’ rated (Under 17 aged children should be accompanied by parents) and NC-17 (Under 17 aged children restricted to watch) rated movies.
Depending on the content, adult movies are restricted utterly to a certain section of audience.
