Teenagers Who Stay Up Late Are At Higher Risk For Asthma:- This may not be a great news for youth who are not habitual of going to bed early. If they are hooked up to screen till late night, they are at higher risk of getting asthma. Several researchers found out that the teenagers who stay till late at night and wake up late in the morning are likely to suffer from asthma and other allergies. The symptoms of asthma are linked to the body of those people who are not habitual of sleeping early. The study was published in the ERJ Open Research and it reveals about the risk of asthma among teenagers.

This study explains the importance of sleeping on time for teenagers. The sleep affects the respiratory health of the teenagers. Sleep and the ‘sleep hormone’ melatonin are known to influence asthma. The study was conducted among 1684 students in West Bengal who are aged between 13 and 14 years. All these students took part in the study of Prevalence and Risk Factors of Asthma and Allergy-Related Diseases among Adolescents (PERFORMANCE).

Every student was asked about asthma, wheezing and symptoms of allergy. A series of questions have been asked to judge their sleep habits, their times of wake up, how tired they are in the morning. According to the sleep preferences, the research revealed that those who sleep late are prone to asthma and other respiratory problems. The chance of asthma in these youngsters is three times higher than the regular youth.
