The judicial custody of the tainted former Telecom Minister A. Raja, the kingpin of the 2G Spectrum scam, was today extended till April 2, when the investigating agency CBI files its first charge sheet in the case.
Special CBI Judge O. P. Saini passed the order extending the remand of Raja and three others who were arrested along with him in the case.
The CBI earlier said it would file the charge sheet against Raja on March 31 but today it sought two more days from the Supreme Court for filing the charge sheet. The charge sheet will now be filed on April 2. The Supreme Court has agreed to give time after the CBI said it was preparing a detailed document running into over 80,000 pages on the scam.
The three others whose judicial custody was also extended were former Telecom Secretary Siddharth Behura, Raja’s former personal secretary R. K. Chandolia and Swan telecom promoter Shahid Usman Balwa. All of them are in Tihar Jail now.
