In the clamorous sessions of the Lok Sabha on Thursday as the Opposition party, BJP had made all efforts to halt the proceedings in the lower house raising slogans seeking the resignation of the PM, the Lower House had passed a bill regulating the chemical weapons in accordance with the international convention. Another bill was also passed to setup more institutes like AIIMS.
Both, the Chemical Weapons Convention (Amendment) Bill, 2012, and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (Amendment) Bill, 2012, were passed by voice vote.
The AIIMS bill would replace existing regulation and allow six AIIMS-like institutes to be operational starting September 15.
According to the Chemical Weapons Convention Amendment Bill, the existing Act framed in 2000 would make necessary changes to he convention on the Prohibition of the development, production, stockpiling and use of chemical weapons and on their destruction. The convention was signed on January 14, 1993.
This progress amidst the desperate attempts of BJP to stall the house on the issue of the CAG report on coal blocks allocation indicates the resolute of the house to conclude the monsoon sessions with the legislative business finished.
