Image of J&K Health Minister touching woman doctor goes viral

While the #SelfieWithDaughter is doing the rounds all over the web, the image of Jammu and Kashmir Health Minister Chaudhary Lal Singh inappropriately touching a woman doctor reminds us the fact that the heinous acts against women exists very much and can’t be abolished with selifies.

On Monday, Jammu and Kashmir Health Minister Chaudhary Lal Singh went to a government hospital in Lakhanpur to check the arrangements for Amarnath pilgrimage, which started today.

Mr. Singh reportedly noticed that the collar of a woman doctor was not proper. He instead of asking her to put it right, he proceeded to fix it.

"The minister moved towards her and said ... 'Bitiya your collar is not proper' and corrected it himself. The doctor said nothing," said an officer who was present at the time.

The image caught on a camera and was circulated widely on the web.  Needless to say, it has ignited an online furor.

"Shame: Health minister Lal Singh during Lakhanpur visit today," tweeted Sheikh Junaid.

In February this year, Mr Singh was accused by a woman doctor of mental harassment after he rebuked her for not wearing her lab coat.

Many told that the minister could have limited it with words.

This is not the first time Singh has courted controversy. Just two weeks after taking his oath in February this year, he had landed in a controversy after a woman doctor filed a complaint against him, accusing him of "mental harassment amounting to outraging modesty".

The complainant alleged that she was standing with other hospital staff when the minister walked towards her and asked her why wasn't she wearing her lab coat. To this, she replied that as it was a social function she thought it was not required. The minister, according to the complainant, shouted at her and said, "It is an official function."

The doctor said she informed the minister that at times psychiatrists don't wear their coats even in hospital wards, so as to make their patients feel comfortable around them. But, she alleged, the minister shouted at her and said, "Who has invited you here?"

"He snapped his fingers at me and said: 'Tumhara Kaam Ho gaya, chalo niklo bahar'," the doctor said in her complaint.
