Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi revisited Hyderabad Central University, to fight against the Centre, over the burning issue, Dalit student Rohith Vemula suicide.
It is known that, on January 19th, Rahul Gandhi visited HCU, following the suicide by Dalit scholar. After that day, he revisited HCU last night 12.10 am and spoke to the agitating students and lit candles before Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula's picture.
One of the members of Joint Action Committee (JAC) for social justice (University of Hyderabad) said, Rahul will be joining the hunger strike movement from 6am today. National Students Union of India (NHUI) National president Roji M John said that Rahul would participate in strike, till evening 6 pm (12 hours).
“Students called for mass hunger strike. Rahul will also sit in the dharna. This hunger strike will be held in all universities of the country,” John said.
Rahul Gandhi intervened and politely told the students, not to shout murdabad, while the students raised slogans against HRD minister Smrithi Irani and Union Labour Minister Bhandaru Dattatreya. Rahul opined that shouting murdabad will not do justice.
Earlier, three students, who were suspended, sat on fast unto death, demanding to arrest V-Appa Rao Podile and dropping of Smrithi Irani and Bandaru Dattaretreya from the cabinet.
Being Rohith Vemula’s birthday today, about 2,000 students organized a candle light march tonight in the HCU campus.
As Rahul Gandhi is strict over his decision of participating in the hunger strike throughout the day, it should be seen, how it would influence the Centre and make them move forward.
