Film remakes make it easy for the directors, editors and also actors. It is easy for the audience also to have an idea of what can be expected. Like in Ramayan that is seen many times, audience knows what happens to Sita ultimately. While watching Mahabharata, everyone knows that Draupadi is going to be resuced by Srikrishna when she appears in the scene of her robes being pulled in an attempt to make her naked in the court of Kauravas.
But the question of why a movie should be remade is not answered by any in a convincing manner. Are we short of stories? No.
But the success of a movie in other language is an assurance of its success as our film makers think that a movie’s assurance cannot be given by any. One cannot guess success of a movie. It can strike pay dirt beyond imagination or it may go down making it to face a tremendous loss! So the proven track gives encouragement to the producers.
A story comes to mind at this context in which some people going in a strange land find foot prints of human beings and get encouraged by it. But a wise person says that it can be a dangerous path also as the foot prints are seen only in one direction but no return steps were visible!
Nowadays everyone understands or at least follows a Hindi film. Then where the question of the need for a remaking comes? Once Pawan Kalyan burnt his fingers with the remade Telugu film “Teenmar”. An ace director like Shankar also made “Three Idiots” in Tamil and Telugu only to make an entry of a failure in his film career’s account. Kamal Haasan made “The Wednesday” as “Eenadu” in Telugu and Tamil only to disappoint the audience and get disappointment in turn.
Only Pawan’s “Gabbar Singh” played well because of the modifications to suit Telugu audience and because of the Pawan mark of dialogues and because of the comedy scenes like Antakshari in the movie.
This week again we are going to have a remake of “Bol Bachchan” as “Masala” in Telugu with Ram and Venkatesh, fate of which can be seen in 3 days flat as it is releasing on 14th.
