The Deoria district administration had given a shock to the family members of the slain BSF head constable Prem Sagar.
The administration officials installed a window air conditioner, put up sofa and carpet at the jawan’s residence ahead of the Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath’s visit. Much to the family members surprise and shock, these trappings of affluence were removed within minutes of the chief minister’s departure.
The family members said that they were taken aback, when the authorities removed the air conditioner, sofa and carpet soon after the chief minister left their place. And within 15 to 30 minutes of his departure, everything was gone, said Dayasagar, brother of the fallen BSF trooper.
However, there was no official word of it. The Deoria administration had installed air conditioners, put up new curtains, sofas and carpets in the living room where the chief minister was to meet the family. The dusty roads in the village were cleaned and drains which always remained open were covered, a day before the CM’s visit.
On May 1, Head Constable Sagar was on patrol duty along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch when Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT) crossed the LoC and ambushed the patrol team. Sagar and Naik Subedar Paramjeet Singh of the Army, while taking cover, were left behind. The two jawans were killed and their bodies mutilated.
The family members of Sagar refused to cremate the body insisting that the chief minister visit them. They agreed to hold the last rites only after the chief minister spoke to them. On May 12, Adityanath visited Sagar’s family at his native village Tikampaar. The UP CM offered condolences and presented a cheque for Rs 4 lakh. He also promised to provide employment to Sagar’s children after they complete their studies, says reports.
The UP CM further said that in the memory of the slain trooper, a shaheed smarak (martyr’s memorial) and a girls inter college will be set up in the village. He also promised a road to connect the village to the main road. With regard to a demand for a gas agency for the family, a recommendation will be sent to the central government, said Adityanath.
