No More Telugu Medium in AP Schools:- The Government of Andhra Pradesh decided to convert all the government schools into English medium schools from the next academic year. This will be applicable for students from class first to eight. Telugu or Urdu will be made a compulsory subject for the students of these classes. There would be no Telugu medium schools in Andhra Pradesh from next year. School education department principal secretary B Rajsekhar issued a government order (GO Ms. No. 81) about the same yesterday. All the government schools, Mandal Parishad and Zilla Parishad schools will be converted to English medium from next year.

The government also clarified that all the classes ninth and tenth will be converted into English medium from the academic year 2021-22. Some of the Teacher unions are against the move of the government. United Teachers Federation (UTF) in a statement on Wednesday condemned the YS Jaganmohan Reddy government’s move. General Secretary Shaik Sabji asked why the government is so eager for English medium. UTF also questioned the government about the number of available teachers if the schools are converted into English medium schools. Several teachers are not familiar and fluent with English currently. The government is yet to respond to this.
