Now any person who attempts suicide and survives won't be considered as criminal as Narendra Modi government has decided to scrap of section 309 of Indian penal code. This decision of NDA government was backed 18 states and four union territories.

However, states like Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi have opposed this move. They cited terrorist activists would take advantage of this and this provision should be considered thoroughly. Prior to this a person who attempts suicide and survives would get one year prison and be considered as a criminal.
