Mizoram lifts ban on liquor

The State government of Mizoram has lifted 17 year old ban on consumption of liquor and will come into force from today.  However, the government did not relax on the punishment awarded to drunken driving and drunken brawls in public places. It isn't clear whether the government lifted the ban to increase its income.

The Mizoram Liquor Prohibition and Control Act [MLPC], 2014 will replace the Mizoram Liquor Total Prohibition Act of 1995 and this new legislation legalises consumption of liquor for the first time in the state in the last 17 years. Wine shops will able to sell liquor from the month of March while the preparations have already begun in a large scale.
