True to the prediction made by the Germany’s 3-year old psychic octopus Paul, Spain won the FIFA 2010 World Football Cup defeating the Netherlands 1-0 in the grand finals held at the Soccer city at Johannesburg Sunday night.
Andrés Iniesta of Spain scored the only goal, with four minutes of extra time to spare for the match, to bring the cup to his country and record a place for Spain among world football's all-time greatest teams.
With the teams facing a penalty shootout in a game of few clear chances, Iniesta collected a sliding pass into the area from substitute Cesc Fabregas and smashed the ball across goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg and in at the far post.(Submitted on 12-07-2010).
