The Argentine Football Association (AFA) had removed veteran trainer Maradona from the post of the football team’s coach, ending his erratic 21-month stint as in charge of the national team.
The AFA had initially offered him a four-year contract to continue through to the 2014 World Cup but Maradona insisted that he would like to continue in his present capacity if the entire team and other staff members are retained. This was not agreeable to the AFA.
The AFA executive committee has approved a proposal not to review his contract with such conditions on Tuesday, ending Maradona’s tenure.
