Hon'ble Mr Spider sacrifices to safe guard honor

A report enlightens the ordeal of the male spider. The poor nephilengys malabarensis spider,  either has to survive from his mate from being gobbled as food or lose his pennis stuffed in his partner to avaoid any other intruder. If at all he survives all this the eunuch is much stronger to fight his rivals to safeguard his love interests and his offspring. And in all given probabilities 75 out of a 100 spiders are eaten by their bed mates. Pretty bad scene folks!!

The research work that is to be published in the `Biology Letters' scheduled for this month reports that  'Prior work has demonstrated that eunuch spiders are superior fighters, we here pinpoint a mechanism that enables eunuch's greater endurance. Our present results imply that palp weight poses significant physical costs to males.'

To substantiate their study the researchers team amputated either one or both palps from the male ones. They found that removing one palp reduced the spider's body weight by four per cent, and removing both reduced it to nine per cent. But their endurance increased by 32 per cent and 80 per cent respectively. Quoting their valour te team hypothesise that the spiders fight more without their palps because they have 'nothing to live for' other than protecting potential offspring - and without the drag of their privates, they could fight for longer.

Bad scene lets sympathise the valiant Mr Spider, though not a role model of course, is worth our sympathy atleast. (With inputs from internet-AarKay)
