25 species of monkeys need your support

Wildlife researchers said that there were at least 25 species of primates that were facing severe threat of extinction and they include the different species of monkeys, lemurs, langurs and gorillas. Unless stringent measures to protect the diversity are enforced to prevent the deforestation and the illegal trafficking we may not be able to see them in the near future except in pictures.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature said on Monday that primates from Asia and Africa are severely threatened. Over six of these species are habitants of Madagascar, Africa. They added that this would create a great void in the food chain and disturb the ecosystems since primates are primarily responsible for the seed dispersal which ultimately maintains the diversity of the forests.

These statistics were obtained from a recent report released in the biodiversity conference which is being held in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh.

The efforts for conservation put in earlier, according to reports, clearly shows that it has put several primates out of the danger of being extinct soon.
