China banned the Microsoft's Windows 8, the latest operating system on government computers as part of a notice on the use of energy-saving products. The ban was to ensure computer security after Microsoft ended its support for the Windows XP which is widely used in China.

The official new agency Xinhua confirmed the ban however could not cite any reasons on how the ban supported the use of energy-saving products, or how it ensured security.

This is a major blow for the Tech giant and Microsoft declined to comment about the ban news.
