Dr.Manmohan Singh, the 13th Prime Minister of India was born on 26th September 1932 is celebrating his 10th birthday as PM.
Born in Gah, Dr.Manmohan Singh’s family opted to come to India during partition in 1947. He is the first Sikh to hold Prime Minister’s office. After Jawaharlal Nehru He is the one to hold PM office for a full tenure of 5 years. He first came to the political attention when P.V.Narasimha Rao was the Prime Minister. Dr.Manmohan Singh was then made Finance Minister and with both of them working together many economic reforms took place in the country.
Manmohan Singh assumed the office of the Prime Minister of India on 22nd May 2004 when UPA formed Government and its Chairperson Sonia Gandhi invited him to take charge as Prime Minister as a surprise gesture. As such he is celebrating his 10th birth day as PM.
Another speciality with Dr.Manmohan Singh apart from the good will as a clean person, great economist and intellectual is he was never elected to Loksabha. He was always a Rajysabha Member. He was first elected to Rajyasabha in 1991 from Assam. Then he was re-elected in 1995, 2001, 2007 and 2013. He was the leader of opposition in Rajyasabha during the regime of Bhartiya Janata Party from 1998 to 2004.
