Police virulent in Visakha 'manyam' area

Security personnel intensified their operations in the tribal hamlets, `manyam' areas of the Vishakapatnam District. The hamlet filled with tribals seem to feel uncomfortable with the searches. However the Superintendent of Police Srinivas said that it was a routine exercise, and further confirms that none of the public were detained by the police. Manyam is a sensitive area in the district were the primitive tribals dwell. On one side the Maoists constantly disturb the peace of this innocent hamlet and on the other side the government forces. Between the two the life in the hamlet looks shattered, say sources.

Manyam is a rich place with natural cash rich crops and huge deposits of ores. The place is filled with coffee plantations and bauxite deposits. The rich and the elite are looting the hamlet folks and they remain the same since centuries. There was a time when the manyam people dreaded civilised public who they thought were bent upon exploiting them. Inspite of being remote nature has showered them with abundance which is less used by them and looted hugely by the urban elites. The forests in the area are rich with sandalwood and recently some unscrulprous elements have lured the innocent manyam people and involved them for smuggling the logs say sources.

The Maoists cash on this point and encourage them to take up against the governments. Eventually the manyam people are suspected by the government and are the exploited lot, like their brethren in the Andaman and the Nicobars. Noted freedom fighter and patriot Alluri Seetharamaraju hails from this place.  (With inputs from internet- AW AarKay)
