After heavy rains are stopped in most part of Chennai, the rescue operations are speeded up and even the airport and railway facilities are on.
The horrifying rains in Chennai took away 269 people, thousands homeless and turned Chennai as an island. But after the rains are stopped, the officials have speeded up the rescue operations and are now able to reach every corner to assure the support for the people.
In the beginning, it was announced that, airport and other travel facilities will resume from December 6th, but as the conditions are found to be favorable to resume, the officials resumed yesterday itself, keeping in mind, the problems of the common public.
As per the reports, the Chennai airport will resume its flight services only partially to ferry stranded aircraft. The flights can only take off without passengers and no landings will take place. The clearance was given by DGCA following an inspection of the facilities at the airport.
Speaking on the issue, RK Srivastava, Chairman of the Airport Authority of India, said, “The situation is under control and the water has receded from the airfield side. We have made it operational and from tomorrow (Saturday) it will start working. We have allowed operation for the ferry, technical and relief purpose.”
Due to the heavy rain water in the runway, the airport operations have been suspended for more than a week and finally resumed yesterday.
On the other side, yesterday, even the southern railway resumed limited operations from Chennai's Egmore station, with five special trains leaving for Kanyakumari, Sengottai, Tuticorin, Madurai and Tanjore.
The railway authorities have also announced special trains from Chennai Beach station to Hyderabad, Tirunelveli and Rameswaram. Similarly, a special train will be operated to Mangalore from Arakkonam railway station.
Coming to the Road transportation, several closed down bridges and routes are opened up. However, several subways filled with the water are forcing the people, to take the long routes.
Most of the petrol and diesel outlets in Chennai are not functional, though Indian Oil sources said there is no shortage of fuel and the problem is only due to power failure.
